What: A Valentines performance/disruption.

Who: All lovers, performers, activists, anti-valentinites, people who like to push the envelope. Basically anyone.

Where: Around the country/world, on the streets, where people meet, in a club or in a pub, in a bar or in a car, on a train, or in a plane. Wherever the hell you want to.

When: Valentines night every year.

Why: To affect peoples perceptions of love, romance, trust, communication, respect, jealousy, non-monogamy, and Valentines Day. Or just to have fun.

Remember Montego Bay Script

The Story:

Years ago I was coming home from a bar and as I walked to my car I saw three different couples having ridiculous, screaming arguments with each other on the streets. I considered what causes people to lash out at one another like this in such a public display. Is it our (societies) unattainable expectations of love and romance? Is it people’s fear of being alone; therefore holding on to a relationship that is no longer working? Can people live, long term, in a healthy relationship? Can’t we all just get along?
This is when I came up with the idea for “Remember Montego Bay”, a public street performance/disruption, that addresses these issues, And what better time to force people to analyze their relationships, than on Valentines night. Montego Bay is written non-gender, so the couples can be male/female, female/female, or male/male. This argument deals with trust, communication, respect, jealousy, non-monogamy, and love.
The performance has taken place for two years, set on the crowded streets of Austin. We have had up to 15 couples scattered around the streets Valentines night, (we expect 30 couples this year) and at the same time, we have the same, boisterous, scripted, jealousy induced argument. We then meet up at a bar, laugh, tell stories, and resume the argument in the streets, soon after.
We are calling all lovers, performers, activists, anti-valentinites, or anyone who likes to push the envelope, to join us Valentines night and create this argument around the country. Whether you are a crew or two people let’s do it!
Fuck Valentines Day. Display your love everyday.
